Getting started
SyllableReader is a free browser extension that reads any webpage aloud, word by word, with real-time highlighting. It also colour-codes syllables to help with decoding. It is designed for people with dyslexia, ADHD, or anyone who reads better when they can see and hear text at the same time.
SyllableReader is available on Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox. Install it from the relevant browser store — all three versions are kept up to date.
SyllableReader works on the vast majority of websites including news sites, blogs, Google Docs, Wikipedia, and most educational platforms. A small number of sites with unusual text rendering or security restrictions may not be fully supported.
No. SyllableReader Lite is completely free with no account or sign-up required. Pro and Elite subscribers receive a licence key by email that is entered directly into the extension — no account creation needed.
Free trial
Yes — you can try Pro or Elite free for 7 days. Start your trial directly from the SyllableReader toolbar after installing: click the plan badge (it shows FREE for new users) and select "Try Pro free for 7 days" or "Try Elite free for 7 days". No payment or account is required. Your trial resets automatically after 7 days, and you can choose to upgrade at any time.
When the 7-day trial ends, the extension automatically returns to Lite mode. Your settings are preserved. You can upgrade to a paid plan at any time from the toolbar or from syllablereader.com/upgrade.
Plans and pricing
Lite is free and includes core reading tools: TTS, word highlighting, syllable colour-coding, and speed controls. Pro adds Bionic Reading, Tutoring Mode, High Contrast, Dyslexia Font, and Font Size controls. Elite includes everything in Pro plus Focus Mode, Line Spacing, Word Spacing, Letter Spacing, and the Advanced Ruler. Full details at syllablereader.com/pricing.
SyllableReader Lite is free forever. Pro is £3.99 per month or £39.99 per year (saving £7.89 versus monthly). Elite is £6.99 per month or £69.99 per year (saving £13.89 versus monthly). Annual plans save up to 17%.
Yes. You can switch from monthly to annual (or vice versa) through the Lemon Squeezy customer portal. The link to your portal is included in your original purchase confirmation email.
You can cancel at any time through the Lemon Squeezy customer portal — the link is in your purchase confirmation email. After cancellation, your Pro or Elite access continues until the end of the billing period. There are no cancellation fees.
Licence keys
Your licence key is emailed automatically by Lemon Squeezy immediately after purchase. Check your inbox and spam folder for an email from Lemon Squeezy (not from SyllableReader directly). If you have not received it after 30 minutes, contact support@syllablereader.com with your order reference.
SyllableReader licence keys use a standard UUID format: XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX — eight characters, then four, then four, then four, then twelve, separated by hyphens. Always paste rather than type your key to avoid errors.
Click the badge in the SyllableReader toolbar (it shows FREE, PRO TRIAL, or similar). Select "Activate licence key", paste your key in the format XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX, and click Activate. The badge will update to show PRO or ELITE to confirm activation.
Double-check you have copied the full key in the format XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX. Paste rather than type to avoid errors. Check for any extra spaces before or after the key. If the problem persists, email support@syllablereader.com with your order reference.
Each Pro or Elite subscription covers up to 2 browsers or devices. If you need to activate on a new device after reaching the limit, deactivate one of your existing activations first from the toolbar menu.
Privacy and data
No. SyllableReader processes text locally in your browser. No page content is sent to our servers. See our full Privacy Policy for details.
For Lite users, no personal data is collected. For Pro and Elite subscribers, we store your licence key, subscription tier, and activation count in our database. We do not store browsing history, page content, or any personally identifiable information beyond what is required to validate your subscription.
